I have extensive experience with racing in the US and Europe; I know the differences and successes between the two, which will contribute to how we approach the growth and management of the sport. I’ve been involved in teaching clinics, coaching cyclocross specific athletes and encouraging others to try the sport and help it grow. I know the technical ins and outs of cyclocross and feel I would be a good candidate for the committee.
Colorado Springs, Colorado – USA Cycling’s new rankings system is now available for all current licensees via their My USA Cycling Account. The revamped system will not only provide increasingly accurate rankings, but also the ability to compare and contrast results and rankings with fellow riders across disciplines, age and ability categories.
I’ve been racing cyclocross for nearly ten years. You’ve never heard of me. I’ve never been on a ‘cross podium, and I probably never will. But, I love the sport, and I’m out there as often as I can grunting away in the middle of the pack., in the rain, snow, and mud. I want to represent the riders that do this for that experience, and not for glory. I’d like to ensure that while attention is appropriated focused on the national level and the elite racers, that the no-name guys at the back of the pack do not get left behind. Additionally, I’d like to see more new riders getting into the sport, whether they are from a road or MTB background, or entirely new to cycling.
Today, August 31st, is the last day to vote for USA Cycling Officials, so make sure to Get Out The Vote and voice your opinion for who you want to represent cyclocross on the committee.
We’re brought you candidate statements from two of the nominees, Brook Watts of Cross Vegas and Adam Rakunas of the Strawberry Fields Multisport Festival.
As you may have read in our previous article on the USA Cycling Board Elections, there are open positions on the cyclocross committee. At Cyclocross Magazine, we recognize the importance of these positions, and because of that, we want to encourage everyone to vote in the elections. Today, we’re presenting our first candidate statement from Brook Watts, who most of you may know as the man who brings you CrossVegas. If you’re running for a position on the committee, email [email protected] with your position and we’d be happy to post it.

USA Cycling has tried different methods for establishing start orders for National Championships the past few years. While Elite racers have a UCI point system that makes ranking and positioning easy, non-UCI and age-based racers first endured the “race to registration” – whereby the front row was determined by the previous year’s results, but everyone else got their spot on the grid based on when they signed up online – then for 2010 had a time trial the day before the main event determine lineup.
USAC has talked about implementing a point system for non-UCI races for a while now,
