After several Cyclocross National Championship registration hiccups, USA Cycling now will have complete control over any potential issues by owning its own registration process, similar to the system it used this past April for the summer’s National Championship events. After this successful test, the organization will expand the service to allow any USAC event promoter to use its system and generate additional revenue. Press release below.

USA Cycling Announces Proprietary Online Event Registration Program

Colorado Springs, Colo. (Sept. 27, 2010) – After the successful development and implementation of an online registration system for its National Championship events, USA Cycling will offer its online event registration system for all USA Cycling sanctioned events in 2011. The system, which is designed to streamline the process and lower the cost of online registration, will be available to USA Cycling promoters beginning Dec. 1, 2010.

USA Cycling’s customized online event registration completes a full suite of online services designed to better serve promoters and riders. The suite of services will consolidate the entire online event sanctioning process from beginning to end, including:

  • Event permitting
  • Online registration with pre-populated license information pulled directly from USA Cycling’s database so there is no need for riders to set up a separate account for registration
  • Sale of one-day licenses online
  • Ability to file post-event reports online

If promoters use all of the online services available for permitting a USA Cycling event, they will be able to resolve their event account without writing a check or using a credit card. The necessary permit fees will simply be deducted from rider registration fees using the online system.

“Based on feedback from our members, we have endeavored to simplify the process and reduce the cost of event registration,” said USA Cycling Chief Executive Officer Steve Johnson. “Our goal is to provide a much better customer experience for both our racing membership and our event promoters by offering an efficient, integrated registration platform.”

USA Cycling introduced in April, 2010, its online registration system for its National Championship events, allowing participants to register quickly and easily through their “My USA Cycling” account, saving time and money in the process. USA Cycling members provided overwhelmingly positive feedback in the post-event surveys, so the decision was made to enhance the suite of online services and offer online event registration to all USA Cycling promoters.

USA Cycling will continue to allow promoters to use online event registration through their preferred provider.

Riders must have an active USA Cycling license or purchase a one-day license to register online. Annual licenses can be purchased or renewed here.

Details of the financial structure of the online registration system will be announced shortly. All credit card transactions with USA Cycling use the industry standard SSL encryption to ensure safe and reliable transmission over the internet. USA Cycling does NOT store any credit card information. Visa, MasterCard and Discover will be accepted through our credit card processing site, as well as American Express and bank payments through PayPal.

The online registration system will debut Dec. 1, 2010.
