ANTWERP, Belgium – Sanne Cant (Enertherm-BKCP) accumulated another win at the 2014 Scheldecross Antwerp to add to this season’s stellar performance, making it her fifth top podium placing in a row.
Cant dominated nearly the entire race, passing the early leader Ellen Van Loy (Young Telenet-Fidea) after she became hung up in the course barrier in a tight right-hand turn.
Small mistakes by Van Loy allowed Cant to extend her lead, try as she might to reel the European Champion back in.
The only impediment to Cant’s unstoppable charge came in the form of a tangle with lapped riders later in the race. But the minor hiccup wasn’t enough to turn the tables.
Van Loy retained her position to finish second ahead of teammate Loes Sels. American Rider Elle Anderson (Kalas-NNOF Cycling Team), back after a bout of illness, finished an impressive sixth.
Christine Varados of the US also had a strong showing, finishing twelfth for the day.
