The tide finally turned in the men’s race for Sunday, with Tim Johnson taking the win after two days of Jeremy Powers’ domination. In the women’s race, it was Nash-Nash-Nash, as the Czech racer showed the women’s field a lesson in winning over and over during Jingle Cross Rock weekend.

In the women’s race, it was New England’s Crystal Anthony who went out hard, holding the gap until the first time up Mount Krumpit, where Katerina Nash and Amanda Miller made contact. Behind them, Elle Anderson and Kaitie Antonneau chased.

It wasn’t long before Nash opened up a gap creating a lead of 9 seconds, with Anderson leading the charge in the chase group. Anderson pulled away from the others, with A. Miller behind her, but Nash remained in control in the lead.

Halfway through, Nash’s gap remained solid, while Catherine Pendrel and Antonneau were slowly reeling in Miller and Anderson, after shedding Anthony.

It was no surprise when Nash came in for the win, her third of the weekend, and Anderson took second, followed by Miller, Pendrel and Antonneau.

In the men’s race, Trebon took an early lead, but it was the young Logan Owen who was first over the flyover followed by Tim Johnson. Alan Krughoff, Yannick Eckmann, Jeremy Powers, Curtis White and Ben Berden followed in the chase group, a great mix of racer ages, from 18 to nearly 40!

In the front, Johnson took over the lead while Powers took over the chase. Johnson and Owen opened a 10 second gap, and Powers followed comfortably in third with Berden on his wheel. Behind them, Jamey Driscoll joined in the mix of chasers, and right behind him was Jeremy Durrin with Trebon.

Halfway through, Johnson attacked, leaving Owen for Powers to catch, and by the top of Mount Krumpit, Johnson had a 10 second lead, though Powers was slowly working to shut it down. Owen fell back behind Powers and Berden, in with the Driscoll group, and behind them was a large group led by White.

While Powers has been unbeatable all weekend, that didn’t seem to phase Johnson, who opened the gap to a solid 23 seconds. Powers fell back to the Berden chase group, while Johnson’s lead grew to nearly a minute with two to go. Despite his lead, the hungry-for-a-win Tim wasn’t about to slow down.

With one to go, Johnson led with a huge gap to the battle for second between Driscoll, Owen, Powers and Berden. In the end, it was Johnson taking the solo win, with Powers in second, followed by Berden, Owen (his best result this year), and Driscoll.
