Jeremy Ferguson (California Giant Berry Farms) produced a strong win in the Men’s Category A race in the Sacramento Cyclocross series, hosted by City Bicycle Works, Sacramento. The Lange Twins Winery course at Acampo was wet and treacherous in many places with deep mud at the bottom of short down hills, off-camber sections and tan-brown muddy puddles that hid their true depth.

Throughout the day, one particular trench-hiding puddle, in front of a short riser, sent several riders lurching over their handlebars. Ferguson avoided problems at these sites, and instead enjoyed a good muddy, local race, staying ahead of recently crowned Men’s Masters 45-49 Champion, Don Myrah (Ibis-Buy-Cell.com). Myrah remained in touch with the swift Ferguson throughout the early part of the race finally taking second place, one minute off Ferguson’s pace. Jesse Moore (Cal Giant) finished third.

This win adds to Ferguson’s other in this series, taken in the first event at Harry Renfree Field. In the light field for the Women’s Category A race on the day, Ellen Sherrill (Davis Bike Club Race Team) also took her second win of the series. Sherrill’s comfortable margin of victory came against series leader Joan Gregg (Cycling-Training.com).
