All season, Eli Iserbyt (Belgium) and Tom Pidcock (Great Britain) battled at the front of the U23 Men’s races. Pidcock largely had the upper hand, winning the World Cup overall series, but with the world championship on the line, all bets were off.

Iserbyt won the U23 title in 2016 and Pidcock won the Junior title in 2017, so both young men were also looking to add another rainbow jersey to the closet.

With defending champion Joris Nieuwenhuis (The Netherlands) and previous U23 podium finishers Adam Toupalik (Czech Republic) and Sieben Wouters (The Netherlands) also in the field, the U23 Men’s race on Sunday was expected to be a good one.
