Sunday’s Elite Men’s race at the 2018 Reno Cyclocross Nationals was one for the ages. Jeremy Powers wore a group down by driving a fast pace at the front, and the Stepher Hyde helped shatter the group with an attack with three laps to go.

From there, it was Hyde and Powers at the front. The mentor and the student battling for the sport’s biggest prize. In the last lap, the two champions battled for every corner, knowing they had to be the first to the big run-up. Hyde made an impressive pass before the hill and then was the first up the steep run-up.

The win was the second national championship of his career.
