The young, 22-year-old Belgian cyclocross racer Daan Soete of Telenet Fidea Lions has had some successful races, but none of the magnitude of his third-place finish at World Cup Waterloo. Soete chased Mathieu van der Poel with teammate Corne van Kessel, and despite not closing the gap, finished one-two out of the chase and second and third overall.

Cyclocross Magazine spoke with Soete shortly after he talked to his parents in Belgium, who stayed up to hear about his race. Needless to say, it was probably well worth the late Sunday night for them.

Soete had a successful trip, which included a 6th place at the Jingle Cross C1 on Friday night and a 11th place finish at the 2017 Jingle Cross World Cup.

Enjoy the interview with one of the less-famous Telenet-Fidea riders. Based on his World Cup Waterloo performance, perhaps that’s about to change.
