Huddling around the heater in the WD-40 tent, Cyclocross Magazine’s Molly Hurford caught up with Luxembourg racer-cum-US resident Christian Helmig.
“It’s still pretty gnarly from the rain,” Helmig said, about the Elite course. “It would be nice if it was like it was at the USGP earlier this year.
He’s no stranger to the US even though he’s racing for Luxembourg. “I’ve been living here for six years, racing my bike out of Dallas. I’m really happy that I got the selection for the team and come here. Unfortunately it’s just me, none of the other guys met the criteria.”
His goals for the race? “First of all, not get lapped. Top thirty would be nice.”
