“Last year winning Cross Vegas set in motion my most successful season, I’m really looking forward to racing in front of the best cyclocross crowds in the world. ” Compton commented in describing her commitment to race on Wednesday September 23rd.

In 2008 the Colorado Springs, Colo. resident won not only CrossVegas but captured the Double Down at the Mandalay Bay award by placing tops among the women’s field in both CrossVegas and the USA Criterium Final the following night at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.  In 2007, the first year of CrossVegas, Compton finished a close second to Canadian Lynn Bessette.

“Katie brings a a great competitive nature and is a huge crowd draw,” commented CrossVegas co-promoter Brook Watts.  “We love having her compete because it makes for a great show.”

While Katie lost her title sponsor this summer, she is hoping a second win in CrossVegas will land her another title sponsor who will carry her onto a possible World Cup overall title and that elusive World Championship title.  Compton has a Silver and a Bronze medal in the World Championships on her resume, the highest finishes to date for any American women.

As the most successful American in the sport of cyclocross, Compton is looking forward to racing against some of the toughest athletes the sport has to offer. “With a little luck I can repeat my race win from last year, it’s going to be another epic battle for the women’s title. Without a doubt Cross Vegas will be the race to watch this year and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone out there.”

Compton’s commitment to race the 2009 edition follows by a few days that of Ryan Trebon, CrossVegas men’s champion for the last two years, meaning both 2008 winners will return to defend their titles.
