Clement Ushuaia Wheels Come in 700c and 650b

Clement is a tire manufacturer that has specialized in cyclocross and gravel for many years. The company continues to evolve its products to suit rider's needs and now has expanded into other tire sizes and to offering its own wheels.

At the Sea Otter Classic, Clement displayed a new line of wheels that, like its USH gravel tires, are named after Ushuaia, a city in Argentina at the end of a long gravel road that goes through Chile. The alloy wheels are tubeless with a 23mm internal width, 26mm external width and a depth of 25mm with a maximum pressure of 80psi. Clement's proprietary rim features a hookless bead. There are two levels and two sizes: 700c and 650b.

Clement uses sealed cartridge bearings and the Ushuaia wheels come in QR, 12mm or 15mm front thru-axles and 12×142mm rear thru-axle.

There are two levels of Ushuaia wheels available with the SL version being the lighter weight (1,500 grams per set) version as compared to the standard version (1,650 grams). The standard version has a suggested retail price of $650. Pricing for the SL version is $850.

The lighter SL version of the wheels use 28 straight pull Sapim spokes, brass nipples and Enduro bearings. The hubs feature 36 points of engagement and are compatible with Shimano or SRAM freehub bodies or XD drivers. These wheels come with Centerlock or 6-bolt disc brake hubs.

One thing to note for the racers out there, these new wheels won't meet 33mm UCI width limits with Clement tubeless tires. That's probably music to the ears of almost every U.S. paying customer not subject to such width restrictions and looking for more air volume.

Clement also had some new tires at the Sea Otter Classic. Cyclocross Magazine has covered the brand's MXP tires in the past. Now the brand has a new option for young riders. As we stated in our review of the Raleigh RX24 Kid's Cyclocross Bike a few weeks ago, tire sizes for kids can be confusing and limited, so choosy parents will have to pay attention to such things as ETRTO sizing. Clement gives you another option with the new MXP cyclocross tire in a 24x1.25" in the more popular 507 ETRTO size, the same size as the 24″ tire offered by Islabikes.

In even bigger news (literally and figuratively), Clement now has 700x50c versions of the MSO and USH X’Plor gravel tires. The brand now has a very extensive selection of gravel tires including 650x42c and 650x50c as well as 700x 32, 36, 40, and 50c.

Clement's X'Plor USH and MSO tires have been serving gravel riders well for many moons and the company continues to expand. We are looking forward to getting our hands on a set of the wheels and tires. Stay tuned.
