Aaron Hawkins’ story on Louisville’s permanent ‘cross course being in jeopardy generated a lot of attention and support from the ‘cross community. However, one confusion that arose from the story was whether the Louisville USGP weekend is in jeopardy. Joan Hanscom of the USGP assured us that the future of the race in Louisville is secure.

“The USGP has the strong support of both Metro Parks and The Sports Commission and we will be running in Louisville on October 24th and 25th as scheduled,” Hanscom says. And if the proposed construction actually begins, it would only impact the race beginning in 2010, which gives the organization plenty of time to find an alternative.

“The USGP is committed to Louisville as a venue – not necessarily a specific park,” Hansom explains. “Louisville is the City of Parks and should development at RRCC impact us in 2010, I am quite confident that we can find another a suitable home for our race weekend in one of Louisville’s 123 other parks.”
