Curley Dominates Masters Men 60-64 at the 2015 National Championships: Race Report and Full Results

Austin, TX -Right from the 60+ men’s whistle, Paul Curley’s (Spin Arts Cycling) race was a display of dominance. After only the first lap, Curley had an eighteen second advantage over Randall Root (Evolution Cycling p/b Long & Foster) and George Smith (The 99%ers), the chasers battling for second. Behind them, Hardwick Gregg (Infinity Racing/Tom Williams BMW-Mini) chased as a larger group amassed behind him, including Jeff Townsend (Plus 3) and Tom Chitwood (Soundpony Triad Bank).

“It might have been a little ambitious,” said Curley of going out alone so early in the race. The ambition paid off: no one could catch Curley today. Although Curley suffered a slight bobble in a technical section and lost a few seconds, his lead was large enough that Root and Smith were still nowhere in sight. Curley rode the course’s twists and turns better than anyone else on the course, no doubt prepared by the challenging courses of New England.

Curley claimed a solid win in Zilker Park today to add to his palmares. Smith crossed the line second, ahead of Root in third. Gregg maintained fourth position, and Townsend surged ahead of the chase to claim fifth.
