Sven Nys rode a Trek Boone to the second step of the podium at Cross Vegas this year. He’s been on a Trek for the past two seasons, and we are sad that this will be the last year of what has become an annual tradition of getting into the details of his racing rig as Nys will retire from cyclocross at the end of the season.

In the last year's profile, Nys kept things traditional with cantilever brakes and a double chainring on his Trek Boone, but this year, he went with disc brakes, a single ring, and painted in the day-glo of his Crelan team. We chased down Nys' mechanic as he quickly swept the bike away from the podium area and we were able to catch a few pictures of the former world and Belgian champion’s bike before it was hidden away for cleaning and maintenance.

Nys' bike was completely Shimano Dura Ace 9070 Di2 paired with RS785 hydraulic brakes and 140mm RT99 rotors front and rear. The Boone comes with a frame mounted chain watcher that Nys had paired with a custom chain guard labelled 'Dura-Ace' to go with what looks to be a 48 tooth chainring.

The inner view of the chainguard revealed no ramps on the inner face, but it looks to be a machined down 53t outer chainring.

A Bontrager bar and stem combination was also new, and appears constructed much like the Bontrager Hammerhead mountain bike integrated carbon bar-stem combination except with a relatively compact drop bar. After speaking with Trek directly, we discovered that the combination is only available in two ways: stock on the Emonda SLR 10, or on a team cyclocross bike only if your name is Sven Nys. The XXX Lite Bar/Stem combo is not sold as an aftermarket part, but Trek is formulating plans to offer it as a standalone component in the future.

Bontrager Aeolus3 carbon tubular wheels shod with Sven’s favorite Dugast Typhoons are both front and rear. His mechanic revealed that his tire pressure was set at 1.5 bar for the night. He also used a bottle in a composite Bontrager RL cage on the downtube. The RL cage is a step down from the carbon RLX cage.
