A very tough course with mud, off-cambers, little climbs and some sand was what awaited riders at Superprestige Ruddervoorde on Sunday. The leader in the Superprestige was Dutch rider Yara Kastelijn (777) who had a 1-point advantage on U23 European Champion Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado (Corendon-Circus).

The latter, eager to take the lead in the Superprestige, had today’s head start. World Champion Sanne Cant (Iko-Crelan) also had a good start after a difficult week.

The World Champion suffered from an injury after a crash during the warm-up in Gavere last week and had to skip the Koppenberg classic on Friday. Sunday, she made a successful comeback and even passed Alvarado on one of the off-cambers on the track.

European Champion Annemarie Worst (777) soon faced a big arrear as she got caught after a crash of Anna Kay (Experza CX Pro Team) in the second corner of the race.

After Cant passed Alvarado on the off-chamber, the U23 European Champion soon retook her lead and then went solo a little later and had a 15-second advantage on Cant by the end of the first lap. American rider Kaitlin Keough (Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com) came through in 3rd with a 41 seconds arrear.

Belgian rider Ellen Van Loy (Telenet-Baloise Lions) was in fourth but had to hand over that position to American champion Katie Compton (KFC Racing p/b Trek Knight) in the following lap. Compton caught up with Keough halfway into the third lap and dropped Keough a little later.

World Champion Cant and 15-time American champion Compton were both riding strong but kept losing time on Alvarado throughout the race. The Corendon-Circus rider was invincible today and rode towards her 4th win of the season. She took over the lead in the Superprestige from Kastelijn as well.

“It feels good to be leader in the Superprestige. I can go to the European Championship with a good feeling,” Alvarado told Sporza (translated).

Kastelijn took fifth and lost her lead in the Superprestige. European Champion Worst had to be content with ninth.

Corey Coogan Cisek (CCC Racing) took 39th and Rebecca Gross (Zero D Racing) was a DNF.
