Tim Johnson rode to the top of Mount Washington aboard a Cannondale Fat CAAD fat bike, becoming the first person to ride to the top of the historic Mount Washington Auto Road in the Winter.

The climb is 7.6 miles in length with 4,685 feet of climbing. Johnson faced the 14-percent grade in icy conditions with Mount Washington’s infamous winds howling at up to 49 miles per hour and temperatures dipping to -19 degrees Fahrenheit. Johnson made the climb in 1:45:48 with support from long-time sponsor Red Bull.

The climb is typically closed to bikes aside from two special days of the year when races are held. So for this ride, Johnson and his crew had to get special permission.
