The Rectavit Cyclocross Masters promoters know how to put on a crowd-pleasing show. It’s an ideal way to cap off the European cyclocross season, but also a great recipe to showcase much of what makes cyclocross a spectacle in an urban environment. We’ve seen similar urban cyclocross efforts at events like the Mare Island Pedalfest, but certainly are fans of such efforts to put on a fun show for the fans.

The evening event in Waregem not only featured cyclocross racing but also skill challenges. While Tom Meeusen defeated Niels Vandeputte in the Toyo Tires High Jump competition, Vandeputte secured his own victory earlier in the day with the “Cyclocross Trials” event.

The event featured a time trial through obstacles, with penalties for “dabs” or putting a foot down.

Vandeputte (Alpecin Fenix) raced through the course in just 49 seconds, without a dab. Arno Van den Broeck (1:00) and Toon Aerts (1:17) also had clean runs but were slower.

Enjoy brief highlights thanks to cycling.be below:

Manon Bakker was not the fastest woman, but she was the best with just three penalty points. Shirin van Anrooij, the Junior World Champ, raced through the course in under a minute, but had twelve penalty points. Bakker took 1:15 but won on points. Unfortunately, we haven’t found video highlights of Bakker’s run.

Stay tuned for more coverage from the Rectavit Masters.
