Twelve Masters Women lined up to compete for the 45-49 title at Cantigny Park. The race was the third event on Friday at the 2021 USA Cyclocross National Championships.
Melissa Barker was in Illinois to defend her 2019 title, but faced stiff competition with 2018 45-49 champ, Kristin Weber, returning to reclaim the jersey.
Baker showed she kept her fitness during the pandemic, and had clear sailing over a chase group that included Weber, Joanne Grogan and Melanie Carter.
Barker stretched out her lead to over a minute by the finish, with Weber taking silver and Grogan riding to bronze.
The sticky mud gave riders trouble getting into their pedals, but the rain held off for the morning races.
