Stephen Hyde (Cannondale p/b CyclocrossWorld) got a bit of a redemption at the 2016 Pan American Cyclocross Championships after losing a back-and-forth battle in 2015 to Jeremy Powers (Aspire).

Hyde and Powers were the last remaining duo of a strong five-man lead group that included Danny Summerhill (Maxxis Shimano), Kerry Werner (Kona) and Tobin Ortenblad (Santa Cruz).

Ortenblad was first top pop off, and then after Hyde’s relentless attacks, Werner and Summerhill fell off. Hyde gapped Powers with less than two laps to go, and it looked like the two would reconnect for a sprint finish as Powers was clawing Hyde back. But the Cannondale rider attacked once more, and Powers had nothing left, rolling in for second.

Summerhill outsprinted Werner for third. Allen Krughoff (Boulder Cycle Sport / Yogaglo) moved up to fifth while Ortenblad faded.
