Will Van den Driessche Race Again?

If the UCI has their way, Belgian rider Femke Van den Driessche will receive a lifetime suspension in the wake of her mechanical doping infraction at the 2016 Cyclocross World Championships. The UCI is also seeking to impose a 50,000 euro fine.

In the wake of the proposed sanction her parents told Het Nieuwsblad “that they want to and will take responsibility, albeit with a fearful heart.”

A “typical” doping case infraction can lead to a a maximum of a four year ban. It seems that the UCI, by seeking a lifetime ban, wants to set an example.

Sven Nys for President?

With his retirement in full swing, it seems Sven Nys is being courted for politics.

The Belgian rider told his local press that “more than once” individuals and party affiliates have approached him about running for office and that many in the political world would be “sure to jump” to have Nys on their ticket given the former racer’s popularity.

However, Nys has, for the time being, ruled the idea out.

“As a rider I was far too busy for that. And now there too many new things [coming] at me. Moreover, I feel a bit young and inexperienced. But I’m not, by definition, [ruling out] politics. Only if you do something, you should do it well,” said Nys.

Van der Haar Gets it Done.

Ever been at a race and had to make sure you left right away to take care of the growing list of chores around the house? Or missed out on a race because there was too much to do on the homefront?

It seems that even pros have to get things like the yard taken care of.
