Tire Review: Maxxis Larsen Mimo CX Cyclocross Tire Review

Racing and Riding Impressions: The Steve Larsen-designed Mimo CX looks like an old Vittoria Tigre on steroids and LSD. The round knobs vary in size and surface, with ramped center knobs surrounded by small, smooth knobs and flanked by rows of medium- sized knobs with X cutouts. The result is a tire that grips well on softer surfaces such as grass, soft dirt, and mud. The round knobs shed mud and material well, although we’d love to try an even more open design without the smallest knobs. When the course turns to hardpack or pavement, the tire keeps adequate traction but wears quickly and in loose conditions I wanted more bite than the small knobs provided. The Mimo is a top mud tire.

If more traction is needed the smallest knobs can be removed, resulting in a great all around clincher.
