VSRTCX is back at it again for another year of cyclocross. This time, at Rancho Los Mochos, Livermore in California, instead of last year’s Rowell Ranch, Castro Valley.

Cyclocrossers are getting a tour of the East Bay, as VSRT’s cyclocross race has its third venue in three iterations. In 2018 the race was held at the hilly Las Positas College in Livermore.

The Saturday, September 24, 2022 event is the first of a double-header weekend, followed by Sunday’s unique Mare Island Pedalfest.

Online registration is open for both events.

VSRTCX at Rancho Los Mochos

In its continual quest for The Bay Area’s Finest Cyclocross Venue, Valley Spokesmen Racing Team has uncovered the hidden gem that is Rancho Los Mochos (RLM) Scout Camp, near Livermore. Managed by the same folks that brought you the amazing trails at Wente Scout Reservation, home of the BikeMonkey 8hr MTB race, there are plans to develop a similar network of mountain bike-specific trails at RLM.

VSRTCX Press release

RLM is located south of Livermore, on Mines Road near Mile Marker 14.9. Any local roadie worth her or his salt will be familiar with Mines Road. It is surely the wildest and least trafficked road in the entire region, leading to the spectacular backside of Mount Hamilton. Though you won’t have to venture quite that far to the venue, it will still be a beautiful scenic drive. Head to the venue early to soak in the views!

Camping will be available on Friday night (free if you help with course setup and/or take a volunteer shift on race day). With no city lights for many miles and no moon on Friday night, the stargazing will be off the charts.

And a feature that everyone can’t help but appreciate: there are plentiful real flushing toilets at RLM! We’re talking actual porcelain “thinking thrones”, each housed in its own private “deuce closet”! When it comes time to “drop the kids off at the pool” we guarantee there will be no lines and no waiting. You won’t find nasty portapotties or honey buckets here. What you will find is your very own sparkling clean WC. We sh*t you not!
