The Telenet Superprestige headed to the Belgian coast on Thursday, November 5, for the Noordzeecross in Middelkerke, raced in the evening under the lights at Sportpark De Krokodiel. One of Belgium’s oldest cyclocross races, first held in 1959, the Noordzeecross closed out the Superprestige for years; this season it moved to an early November evening slot with a Halloween theme as the second round of the series, following the series opener at Overijse.

Elite Women’s Race

Aniek van Alphen (777TV CX Team) won the Elite Women’s race in 46:35, holding off Inge van der Heijden (Crelan-Corendon) by 12 seconds, with Denise Betsema (De Ceuster Bouwkranen) third at 18 seconds on an all-Dutch podium. Hélène Clauzel (Seven Racing) finished fourth at 31 seconds, and Amandine Fouquenet (Pauwels Sauzen – Altez Industriebouw) rounded out the top five at 58 seconds. Twenty-seven riders started, with 26 classified. Pem Hoefmans did not finish, while Meg De Bruyne finished two laps down and Larissa Rossner three laps down. There were no North American riders in the women’s race.

Elite Men’s Race

Joran Wyseure (Crelan-Corendon) took the Elite Men’s race in 58:10 at the head of a tightly packed front group, finishing four seconds clear of Michael Vanthourenhout (Pauwels Sauzen – Altez Industriebouw), with Kevin Kuhn (Heizomat – Cube) third at five seconds, Cameron Mason (Seven Racing) fourth at 10 seconds, and Jente Michels (Alpecin-Premier Tech Development Team) fifth at 11 seconds. The win was Wyseure’s second victory of the season and his first in the Superprestige this year, following his win at the HG Cross Heerderstrand in Heerde and a podium finish at the HG Cross in Dendermonde. Vanthourenhout and Mason were at the center of the late-race drama, coming together in a bump on the sand as they fought at the front, with rubbing very much racing in the sand. Forty-one riders started, with 37 classified and four not finishing.

Carden King (Triple Crown Workshop) was the lone North American in the Elite Men’s race. The American finished 27th.
