Be sure to read the 2017 Cyclocross National Elite Men’s race report, photos and videos here: Hyde Survives Late Race Scare to Win First National Championship in Hartford>>

Stephen Hyde (Cannondale Cyclocrossworld) got a bad start but methodically worked his way to the front, built up a lead and held it for the majority of the race to win his first National Championship. James Driscoll (Clement Pro Cycling) was able to challenge Hyde right at the finish (due to a mechanical for Hyde) but would end up in second place by 2 seconds. Kerry Werner (Kona Endurance Team) ended up in third. Jack Kisseberth (JAM Fund / NCC) was fourth and Tobin Ortenblad (San Cruz Factory Racing) was fifth.

Defending National Champion, Jeremy Powers (Aspire Racing) had the odds stacked against him after a bad start. Powers was way back in the field and slowly lost ground as the race progressed, ultimately finishing in 24th.

Stephen Hyde started slow but worked his way to the front in short order. He methodically built up a lead. Little did anyone know that he would need every second of that lead at the finish. 2017 Cyclocross National Championships, Elite Men. © A. Yee / Cyclocross Magazine
