Heading into Sunday’s World Cup Nommay, it was hard not to notice that some of the top riders decided to not make the trip for the penultimate World Cup of the 2019/20 season. Riders such as Sanne Cant (IKO – Crelan), Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin – Fenix) and Lucinda Brand (Telenet Baloise Lions) were among those who opted to skip the race.

When the day was over, it was clear they were the ones who missed out.

The Elite races delivered two Ding Dong Battles (which is apparently a British thing?) with Marion Norbert Riberolle and then Katie Compton playing interloper to Annemarie Worst (777) and Ceylin Alvarado (Alpecin – Fenix) in the Elite Women’s race.

And Eli Iserbyt (Pauwels Sauzen – Bingoal) and Toon Aerts (Telenet Baloise Lions) renewing their rivalry from earlier this season in the Elite Men’s.
