While many cycling fans were watching three-time cyclocross world champ drop defending Tour de France champion Egan Bernal on Sunday’s Columbier summit finish, three other cyclocross champs stood atop podiums over the weekend.

In the 2020 Giro Rosa stage race in Italy, seven-time cyclocross world champ Marianne Vos, arguably the world’s greatest cyclist ever, attacked the brutally steep final climb on Stage 3 to take the victory. See her powerful finish below:

With the victory, Vos also takes the climber’s jersey.

Alpecin-Fenix Doubles Up in Italy

While most eyes were on in France and on Wout van Aert and his yellow jersey teammate Promoz Roglic, cyclocrossers Tim Merlier and Mathieu van der Poel took turns over the weekend on the top step of the podium at the Tirreno Adriatico.

On Saturday on Stage 6, Tim Merlier sprinted to a stunning victory:

And then on Sunday, team captain Mathieu van der Poel spent time in a breakaway and then jumped across to the sole leader to take the victory.

Van der Poel said the pandemic break didn’t help his legs, but now after a month of racing, he’s back to his winning ways.
