OVERIJSE, BELGIUM – Taking her second race of the weekend, Katie Compton (Rabobank-Giant) rode away to a solo victory ahead of Nikki Harris (Telenet-Fidea) and Sanne Cant (Boxx) on a technical and muddy 2.7 km course at Vlaamse Druivencross in Overijse.

With Harris grasping for her wheel, Compton was aggressive from the start, distancing herself from the field and gaining a gap over Harris through a series of technical, mud-caked descents. After her initial attack, Compton only consolidated her lead, going on to finish more than 30 seconds ahead of Harris.

Behind, the field exploded in the technical conditions. Cant was unable to make much progress on her chase of Harris and ended up finishing a half-minute back of the Boxx rider. The only tight race of the day was between American Amy Dombroski and Cyclocross Magazine’s own Christine Vardaros, who finished 10th and 11th, respectively.
