With a lot of off-cambers and steep uphills and downhills, the future UCI Cyclocross World Cup venue at Vestingcross promises a challenging course in the shadow of an old windmill built in 1792.

At the 2020 Vestingcross Hulst, Superprestige overall winner Laurens Sweeck might have been hungover due to his celebration, and teammate Eli Iserbyt out for revenge.

Just like last week, a storm was passing by over the Netherlands and Belgium. Contrary to last week’s race in Merksplas, however, the race didn’t get canceled due to winds, but it was Iserbyt who blew the rest of the field away.

“It went smoothly today,” Iserbyt said. “This course suits me, a lot of intervals. It’s a shame Vanthourenhout had bad luck quickly, but Sweeck helped me well. I soon knew that I was going to win. The legs were good today. During the warm-up, I had a bad feeling though and my back wasn’t feeling okay, but during the race, it got better and better. The technical sections also went well. The wind wasn’t too bad.”

Kerry Werner (Kona Maxxis Shimano) finished 27th and Curtis White (Cannondale p/b CyclocrossWorld) 38th.
