Any other result wouldn’t feel right after Mathieu van der Poel’s utterly dominant season, but now the sport’s best male racer is king again.

The Dutch star felt the pressure, and after crossing the line, admitted it. “It was a lot of weight going off the shoulders crossing the finish line,” Van der Poel said after taking the win, his second title in five years.

Belgians Wout van Aert and Toon Aerts had a dramatic battle for second that would come down to the final few turns.
