The 2018 MontanaCrossCamp for young male cyclocrossers is underway at Carroll College in Helena, Montana. The annual Junior development camp run by USA Cycling Cyclocross Performance Consultant Geoff Proctor is a chance for young riders to jumpstart their cyclocross training, learn new skills and drills and get the chance to work with their peers on improving as athletes

This year, 18 young men aged 16 to 21 are attending the camp. The roster includes a number of faces we saw at camp in 2017, but there are even more first-timers in Montana this year.

MontanaCrossCamp runs from July 2nd through the 7th. The second-annual Women’s camp took place last week in the same location.

Proctor’s MontanaCrossCamp focuses on preparing U.S. cyclocross athletes to successfully race in Europe and here at home during the domestic season. As we highlighted during our coverage of last year’s camp, Proctor has created a unique training program rooted in downhill skiing and cycling. And since he is preparing athletes to race in Europe, there is running. Plenty of running.

In addition to head coach Proctor and coach Scott Herzig, the young men will have the opportunity to learn from several guest coaches. One who was in campers’ shoes recently before moving on to the professional Elite ranks is Tobin Ortenblad. The other guest coaches are Suzie Hosman from North Carolina and Tim Heemskerk from the Netherlands.
