This weekend the Dutch will get a taste of the Superprestige series as it heads to Gieten, the Netherlands. The race has been going on since it’s first edition in 1976 and held it’s first women’s race in 1996. The fastest men and women will take to the course around Gieten.

In 2010, the young Belgian Tom Meeusen (Telenet-Fidea) took the win in Gieten. He will be challenged by former world champion Sven Nys (Landbouwkrediet) and Telenet-Fidea’s Bart Wellens. This was the race where Nys broke his pedal in the final sprint.

In the women’s race, expect big things from European champion Daphny van den Brand (AA drink-Leontien.nl) who will look for a repeat of last year’s win in her home country. Belgian national champion Sanne Cant (BKCP-Powerplus) will also be looking for a strong performance in Gieten. Sophie de Boer is another rider to watch as she was fourth in the European Championships just a few weeks ago.
