After a rare off-week, UCI racing returns to the domestic scene this weekend at FayetteCross in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Although only in its first year as a UCI race, with GP Gloucester canceled and the race taking place at the venue where the 2022 World Championships will be held, FayetteCross has drawn impressive fields for the 2 Elite C2 races.

The race takes place at Millsaps Mountain, the park just outside Fayetteville where the city and the Walton Family Foundation are collaborating to build a mountain bike and cyclocross park. With race director Brook Watts and others making improvements to the facilities, this year’s race presents a first opportunity to see some of the features that may be part of the 2022 Worlds course.

A quick look at the weekend’s Elite start lists is below.

Elite Women

If the veractiy of the CX Heat Check Power Rankings is to be believed, then the Elite Women’s field is stacked with the hottest talent in the domestic cyclocross scene. The top five domestic riders in the latest edition of the Power Rankings will be at FayetteCross to continue their early-season battles in Arkansas.

Katerina Nash (Clif Pro Team) returns after her World Cup Waterloo win, while Maghalie Rochette (Specialized / Feedback Sports) joins her at the start line hoping to wrestle back the top spot. Another September star in Clara Honsinger (Team S&M CX) also joins, looking to continue her hot start to the season.

Caroline Mani (Pactimo / Colorado Proud) lends her TriColour and Jenn Jackson (Easton – Giant p/b Transitions LifeCare) her Hawaiian shirt to the field to round out the other top Heat Checkers on the start list.

The full start list is below.

Elite Men

The number of national championships in the Elite Men’s field got a precipitous increase when news broke that Logan Owen (EF Education First) and his 10 cyclocross national championships will be racing at FayetteCross.

Owen is not the only ringer throwing his hat in the ring. Grinduro winner Stephan Davoust (Giant Factory Off-Road Team), Fernando Riveros (CZ Racing Team) and Josh Direen (Ornot Elite Offroad) are among several mountain bikers jumping in the race the weekend before the Oz Trails Epic Rides Off-Road race.

Curtis White (Cannondale p/b CyclocrossWorld), Gage Hecht (Donnelly / Aevolo) and Kerry Werner (Kona Maxxis Shimano) are among the riders heading up the Elite Men’s start list. The race is also scheduled to be the first appearance of defending U.S. U23 National Champion Spencer Petrov.

Racing at FayetteCross features UCI C2s on Saturday and Sunday. The Elite Women’s races are at 3 p.m. CDT both days and the Elite Men’s at 4:15 p.m. CDT. Check back here Saturday and Sunday for race results.
