The 5th stop of the 2019 UCI XCO World Cup is in Val di Sole, Italy this weekend. Racing action kicked off with Friday’s Short Track race used to determined call-ups for Sunday’s XCO race.

When the mud settled on a course that looked like a cyclocross course—albeit one with a set of artificial whoops—it was a couple of riders with cyclocross experience who replicated their success from last weekend’s XCO European Championships.

In the Elite Women’s race, young star Sina Frei (Ghost Factory Racing) unleashing a massive mid-race attack that only Jolanda Neff (Trek Factory Racing XC) was able to bridge up to. Neff got a small gap on Frei on the last-lap climb to take the win. Frei finished second and Pauline Ferrand-Prevot (Canyon Factory Downhill Team) continued her comeback with a strong third.

Eva Lechner finished 5th, Elisabeth Brandau (EB Racing) 6th, new U.S. XCO champ Chloe Woodruff (Stan’s Pivot Pro Team) 7th, Kate Courtney (Scott – SRAM MTB Racing) 10th, Catharine Pendrel (Clif Pro Team) 18th and Annika Langvad (Specialized Racing) 22nd.

Mathieu van der Poel (Corendon – Circus) and Henrique Avancini (Cannondale Factory Racing) got an early gap on their chasers in the Elite Men’s race. Van der Poel also attacked on the climb in the last lap to get a winning gap. Avancini (Cannondale Factory Racing) finished second and Jens Schuermans (Scott Creuse Oxygene Gueret) third.

The star of the last World Cup block Nino Schurter (Scott – SRAM MTB Racing) finished 7th and Canadian Peter Disera (Norco Factory Team) 19th.

Full results are below. The Elite XCO races are on Sunday. Live streams will be available via redbull.tv.
