The Australians have been racing their National Series since the beginning of June, and on Sunday the 2018 Australian Cyclocross National Championships took place.
After a wet weekend in Adelaide in 2017, the 2018 event was held on the grounds of the Sam Miranda vineyard in King Valley, Victoria.
The Elite Women’s race crowned a new champion in April McDonough (Flanders-Jblood) of Victoria. McDonough finished on the podium at Australian Nationals in 2014 and 2016, but Friday’s race was her first title.
McDonough finished ahead of Naomi Williams (Team Willy Locke) and Stacey Riedel (MAAP-Enve).
In the Men’s race, it was a repeat winner in Chris Jongewaard (Flanders-Jblood). Jongewaard is a teammate of McDonough’s and the contributor of “Jblood” to the team name (learn more about that in our interview with Jongewaard after his 2017 win). The title was his fourth career cyclocross national title.
Christopher Aitken finished second and Garry Millburn (MAAP-Enve) took third in the Men’s race.
