Under the Lights!

Boston, MA — The promoters of the Night Weasels Cometh are proud to announce Newbury Comics as the presenting sponsor of this year’s event!

Newbury Comics is an independently owned retailer specializing in music, movies and pop culture goods. Newbury Comics’ experience comes from over 30 years of alternative retailing through twenty-nine New England based store locations and online through newburycomics.com and punk.com. Owned and operated by its original founders, Newbury Comics is run with a consistent guiding force that has always championed new ideas, experimentation and alternative vision over monolithic corporate structure.

The Night Weasels Cometh is a grassroots cyclocross race that will take place Wednesday, October 5th 2011 under the lights at Ski Ward in Shrewsbury, MA. The Night Weasels is held in between two of New England’s biggest cyclocross races, and these three events in a seven-day span were dubbed the “Holy Week” of cyclo-cross last year. The other two races, Gloucester and Providence, are the first two races in the Shimano New England Professional Cyclo-cross Series Presented by Verge. They draw the nation’s top professional and amateur racers, with fields of up to 2,000 racers.

As the fastest growing segment of bike racing, cyclocross continues to expand its ranks with participant demographics that trend towards mid to high income outdoor athletes.  Important consumer segments such as women and master racers continue to experience strong growth.

Key highlights of the 2010 Night Weasels event included:

  • Ski Ward was the host of Night Weasels –centrally located and a mere 35 minutes from Boston.
  • Over 300 racers participated – coming out to enjoy an exciting cyclo-cross mid week event – even though it was raining!
  • The event had some of the most spectacular racing of the season. Along with big fields of local racers, Night Weasels was contested by some of the nation’s top cyclo-cross professionals.  Adam Myerson, President of Cycle-Smart, Inc and organizer of the Cycle-Smart International race in Northampton had this to say after the race with mud still covering his face, “Two years ago I did Nacht van Worden in the Netherlands. Night Weasels was better.”
