Wout van Aert (Crelan-Charles) seemingly had Sunday’s Brico Cross Geraardsbergen-Eeklo race in hand when he crashed and snapped the derailleur hanger on his new Stevens bike.
Lars van der Haar (Telenet Fidea Lions) overtook the three-time defending world champion and rode to a win in the pre-World-Cup tune-up race.
Van Aert bounced back to take second, and Daan Soete (Pauwels Sauzen – Vastgoedservice) won out of a chase for third.
As we reported last week, Mathieu van der Poel (Corendon-Circus) did not race since he is taking a post XCO MTB Worlds break.
