Kerry Werner (Kona Maxxis Shimano) is one of the two hottest U.S. cyclocrossers along with Ellen Noble (Trek Factory Racing CX). Werner has won seven races so far this season including the C1 at Charm City Cross.

Werner has been on an upward trajectory for several years now. He has finished third at Nationals two years in a row and now enters Sunday’s Pan-American Championships as the arguable favorite.

I had coffee with Werner in Iowa City before driving him to the airport and during our chat I was wishing I had my audio recorder with me. It only made sense to do a follow-up interview. We chatted about his new podium pants, his success this season, the progress he has made as an athlete and much more.
