The Amy D. Foundation, which was sadly born out of tragedy, has been key in the development of female Elite riders in recent years through its Amy D. Racing sponsorship program. The first cyclocross recipients of the Amy D. grant, Erica Zaveta and Rebecca Fahringer, whose bike we recently profiled, have both used the opportunity to launch successful professional careers.

For the 2017-2018 season, Amy D. Racing is supporting former Junior 17-18 National Champion Katherine (KK) Santos. “It’s a huge honor,” Santos told Cyclocross Magazine. “They’ve provided all sorts of support. It’s definitely the next step in a pro career.”

When racing with Amy D., Santos is supported directly by the Stan’s NoTubes team, for whom Amy D. alumni and team director Rebecca Fahringer currently races. “We’re very tight with [Stan’s NoTubes],” Santos said.

Santos, a junior at Marian University, attributes the opportunities she has had this season to the program “I think support is the next level to reaching a pro career, definitely. It’s impossible to do this without it.”

We caught up with Santos at her home race with Marian University at the Major Taylor Cycloplex in Indianapolis, IN, to talk racing and how the Amy D. Foundation has helped her.
