Last year proved to be the toughest of Stephen Hyde’s (Cannondale p/b CyclocrossWorld) career, but the new year brings a chance for a new beginning.

After a successful weekend in Rochester in 2018, Hyde crashed at World Cup Waterloo and missed the next month of the season. After seemingly returned to form, a second crash at Pan-Ams in Ontario set him back again.

Hyde went on to beat his teammate Curtis White (Cannondale p/b CyclocrossWorld) in an instant classic at Louisville Nationals, but the injuries took their toll as he returned to Europe looking to match his impressive finishes from Namur and Zolder in 2017.

On Saturday, Hyde kicks off the new school year in Rochester. I caught up with him before his pre-ride of the course at Genesee Valley Park.
