Hutchinson

We first spotted the Hutchinson Overide gravel tire a few Sea Otters ago, and then put it to the test with positive results, but found the fast-rolling, smooth center tread to leave us spinning our wheels when conditions got really loose or sloppy.

Hutchinson realized some mixed terrain riders still want some knobs and added a new size that bridges the gap between its Black Mamba cyclocross and mountain bike sizes with a new 38mm option. The Black Mamba offers small, low-profile ramped center knobs with progressively taller knobs as you move away from the center.

The company also showed a Black Mamba CX+ tire last year at Sea Otter that caught our eye, and now we’ve got confirmation that it’s a 650b x 50mm tire for some burly monster crossin’.

The 700c x 38mm and 650b x 50mm Black Mamba tires aren’t yet on Hutchinson’s site, but we’ve got a test pair of the 38mm on the way. Stay tuned.

Eyeing the CX+ version for your next adventure? Hutchinson and its distrubtor aren’t offering the big size in the States yet, but aren’t ruling it out either. They say if they hear from retailers or customers that there’s demand, they may make that addition to the CX+ territory.
