We ran into former #cyclocross pro @kerryw24, who was working the show for @bikeflights, but also showing off his special @envecomposites Fray All Road bike custom painted by @blackmagicpaint. He was not racing at Sea Otter but is excited for the 'cross season. He's also hoping for more support to return to the pro ranks and cover his costs.

@redshiftsports showed off the new Topshelf Handlebars at the @seaotterclassic that offer some rise and accessory mounting options. Available with 50mm shown here and 70mm if you need more. Demand for the Topshelf is so high that the first run sold out. The next shipment is due at the end of the month.

Also on display is the new Shockstop pro Endurance seat post that has 35mm of “sporty yet damped feel” with a combination of coil spring and elastomer tune able suspension. This is available now for $280 and sits square in the middle of the Endirand and Pro Race suspension posts. -

A year ago, at the @seaotterclassic, we had our first ride on the @classified.cc two-speed hub, and came away impressed. Now the company has made inroads with bike companies like @ridley_bikes and wheel companies like @envecomposites and is an option for customers wanting smaller jumps (via tighter cassette) or even wider range (via the hub's reducer) in gearing than a typical 1x drivetrain.

We also had fun chatting #cyclocross with Classified's @yannickcycling, former cyclocross racer and team manager.

The @jamisbikes Renegade was an early entry in the gravel space in 2014. Although the company has updated its steel and aluminum versions with greater tire clearance over the years, the carbon bikes have remained at around 40mm. The new 2024 Renegade C1 looks to be a versatile bike that can fit a 50mm tire, offers 21 mounting points, a flip chip to adjust fork rake (50/55), a UDH derailleur hanger, and is dropper post compatible. It's available with SRAM Red AXS with Zipp XPLR 101 carbon wheels ($8999). The C2 sports SRAM Rival AXS with Boyd carbon wheels ($4999). The S2 is the steel Reynolds 631 version with GRX 600 ($2399). Also shown was a carbon model with GRX. Framesets are also available: C1 ($1799), S1 ($1099). Stay tuned.

At the @seaotterclassic, we saw the @feltbicycles Breed Carbon Advanced with the hard-to-miss graphics seen on the rides of @felt.un1td racers including @dylanjawnson, @adamroberge and @danni_shrosbree. It's paired with @shimano GRX 820 2x12-speed. It rolls on @vittoria Terreno Dry 38's on Reynolds G700 aluminum wheels. Max stated tire clearance is 50mm, though Dylan has run @conti_bicycle 2.2" Race Kings on it. That's great mud clearance should you race #cyclocross or #shorttrackgravel. Pricing is $4499. A GRX 610 version runs $2999 and SRAM Force AXS bike is $5999. An aluminum Breed is also available.

@brennan.wertz took the Elite Men's #gravelrace win at the @seaotterclassic over @rob_britton. @matthewwiebe finished third.

There were 21 Elite Men in the race, including cyclocrossers @mvdhcx in 8th and @craigrichey in 15th.

We got a fun ride on the @bimotal.inc Elevate mountain bike motor @seaotterclassic It is a quick mount motor and battery that fits on your rear disc post mount. The motor drives a gear on the special rotor that you mount on your rear wheel. It is a throttle system which has its controversies. We like the innovative approach and found the Elevate to use and a blast to ride around. #mountainbike #seaotterclassic #ebike -
The battery shown is not the Bimotal final design. This Elevate presently has limited availability.-

We did not try the recently announced @bimotal.inc Accelerate mid-drive pedal-assist motor that has a somewhat different use case in mind according to CEO and founder Toby Ricco

The folks at @hudskibikes aren't too concerned about categories or labels. They're just looking to build capable, go-anywhere bikes. At the @seaotterclassic, Hudski was previewing its new Dualist frame, which replace the current Doggler, but gets boost spacing, and two-piece bottom bracket that smooths out dropper post routing, and an optional flip chip rigid fork. Tire clearance is 2.4" for 29er or 2.8" for 27.5".

Complete bikes will run $2200 with Shimano SLX drivetrain. Flat bar for now.

Stay tuned as we hope to get some rides on one.

The folks at @haro_all_bikes have launched the #harograveldivision and with that comes four carbon #gravelbike models ranging from a @shimanogravel GRX 1x model at $2999 to its top shelf @sramroad Force AXS XPLR model with Reverb AXS dropper, @fsa_road SL-K carbon wheels and @vittoriatires Tereno rubber. We saw the top model along with the $4699 SRAM Rival AXS 2x model. Claimed tire clearance is 50mm. All frames have down tube storage and plenty of barnacles for mounting your stuff. Routing is through the stem and headset. There's also a $3999 Apex AXS 1x model. Official launch is May 21. Stay tuned for a review.

We looked with interest at the new Ekar GT 1x13 mechanical gravel group set seen @echoscommunications on this @bassobikes assembled especially to showcase the $1600 2700 gram Ekar GT. The crank is aluminum and the 13 speed cassette is 10-48, lower than the original Ekar. The lever bodies have a smoother shape but retain the carbon blades and the polarizing thumb shifter. #campagnolo #campagnoloekar #gravelbike #cyclocrossbike

@ritcheylogic has a new, not-yet-launched bike on display at its #seaotterclassic booth called the #montebello, named after a road that turns to dirt that's just a few miles from the CXM headquarters. It's oriented towards brevets and randonees, and was @thefergdog's ride for @parisbrestparis. Looks to have clearance for 40mm tires, 36mm with fenders, routing for a dynamo hub light, a new dropout, and is on display with @microshiftofficial Sword drivetrain and @growtac brakes.
