Don’t look now, but Sanne Cant (Iko Beobank) is quietly building a #cxnats streak to rival that of American Katie Compton.
On a heavy, off-camber heavy course in Kruibeke, Belgium, the 28-year-old Cant just won her 10th Cyclocross National Championship in a row.
Loes Sels (Pauwels Sauzen) kept Cant in sight for most of the race, but Cant kept her lead after Sels slid out on an off-camber early in the race and extended it from there.
Laura Verdonschot (Marlux Bingoal) followed in third, with Ellen Van Loy (Telenet Fidea) in fourth. The top four were the same as last year at Koksijde, only in different order.
On the muddy, run-heavy track, most riders took turns sliding while riding or running the off-camber straights and climbs. American viewers, witnessing all the running and frequent bike changes, may have been reminded of conditions at the 2018 V2 National Championships in Louisville.
Cant started her streak at the young age of 18. Compton won her 15th at the age of 40 in Louisville. One might wonder if Cant can keep it going through her 30s and match the impressive streak by Compton?
