Vittoria came to the 2016 Sea Otter Classic and showcased its new Cross XS tire and Qurano disc wheels. The new cyclocross tire features a new Corespun casing with cotton and polyester threads. Vittoria officials say the new casing doesn't require sealing and is thus more supple, similar to the new Team Edition Challenge tires and casing we also saw at Sea Otter.

The Cross XS tread is called a semi-knob tire, not a file tread, by Vittoria and is directional with a fish scale-like pattern that's smooth in one direction and offers more grip in the other.

Vittoria's Qurano wheelset, raced by Ellen Noble at the Cyclocross National Championships as well as at the World Championships, now has a disc brake version to go along with the tubeless and tubular rim brake versions already available. The new Qurano disc will be offered in both tubeless (30mm and 46mm deep) and tubular (46mm deep) forms.

The disc brake version features the same rim as the rim brake version albeit without the brake track, and is asymmetrical for both front and rear to better support the front braking forces. Vittoria's Graphene material used in the carbon rims are said to offer 18 percent better impact resistance.

Pricing on the wheelsets in disc or rim brake is $1,999 USD for 30mm deep, and $2,250 USD for 46mm deep. The Qurano disc wheels feature Centerlock rotor mounts, 4-pawl engagement and thru axle compatibility thanks to SwitchIT freehub bodies that are easily swappable.

Vittoria also offers alloy rims in its mountain bike lineup, with asymmetrical rims, straight pull spokes, and a Speedlock rim profile to securely hold tubeless tires. Sea Otter Classic 2016. © Cyclocross Magazine

Vittoria also showed its alloy rims from its mountain bike lineup, with asymmetrical rims, straight pull spokes and a Speedlock rim profile to securely hold tubeless tires. The more affordable alloy wheels feature more different hubs from the Qurano line, without the SiwtchIT freehubs and internal pawls. The company says the alloy rims are exclusive to the brand.
