At NAHBS 2012 in Sacramento, CA, Stinner Frameworks exhibited their frames for the first time at the hand-built show, and walked away with the Rookie of the Year award for his 29er mountain frame. Three years later, Aaron Stinner returned to NAHBS, jam-packing his showroom space with a full range of models, enticing us with cyclocross, gravel and SSCX bikes.

He’s been building frames and selling direct for five years out of Santa Barbara, CA, completing 40 bikes in 2014 and having the goal of building 150-200 frames this year: A nice problem to have for a builder, and they have brought on more employees in order to stave off some of the growing pains.

Most of their frames, built with a mix of True Temper OX Platinum and Columbus tubing, are under four pounds. Although the were originally recognized at NAHBS for their mountain bike frames, 95% of their bikes are for the drop handlebar crowd. 75% of their sales are complete bikes, with a typical wait time of 12 weeks.

The MSRP of Stinner disc frames go for $2,292, which includes an ENVE fork, while their base-level full builds for both cyclocross and gravel start at $4,000.

We walked through their displayed models with Chris Ellefson, a frame builder working for Stinner Frameworks, who told us that their aim was to sell clean, purpose-driven bikes. Their displayed model is even more ambitious: Design the best bicycles on the planet; Manufacture in the USA; Work hard; Ride hard.

All of the finishes shown in the slider below are available with their $400 custom paint option, which they describe as a sky-is-the-limit option that only adds an average of an extra week to the wait time.
