Watching the women’s race at the 2013 Cyclocross World Championships showcased both the agony of defeat and the surprise joy of an unexpected podium as Lucie Chainel-Lefevre sped to third place and a bronze medal while Katerina Nash struggled with a mechanical in the final meters of the race. While it was a devastating defeat for Nash, she was optimistic at the finish, saying it wasn’t what she wanted but she was happy with her finish. Meanwhile, a thrilled Chainel-Lefevre was shocked when she took third, collapsing onto the ground with emotion at her first Worlds podium.
