Last years World Championships in Valkenburg were a big weekend for the Belgians, with Wout van Aert, Sanne Cant and Eli Iserbyt all winning titles.

This season, the Dutch have dominated at the Elite level, with riders from the Netherlands winning 14 of the 18 Elite World Cups this season. Dutch women went eight for nine, with Marianne Vos winning four, Lucinda Brand three and Denise Betsema one.
