DPC.4CCX.PosterWhen the UCI can’t even stream World Cups to the US, we think it’s particularly interesting when a tiny local race decides to livestream their race, like the Durango Performance Center 4CCX Points is doing this weekend. Watch it here at www.americaonesports.com.  Racing will start at 2pm Mountain Time when the Pro Women, Men B and 50+ will go off for 40 min, then at 3pm is the Pro Men and 35+ Men. We usually pull 60-100 racers and this weekend is looking sunny and soggy so numbers should be high.

Why livestream? Promoter Chad Cheeney explains, “Our college athletics department streams football and soccer games so we thought why not a ’cross race?” The intended audience is primarily family of Fort Lewis College students, alumni, as well as future recruits and junior cyclists. The footage from the live feed will be edited into a post event race recap that will air for several months on local TV/Internet News station IDTV.

It’s not just the promoters streaming for kicks though: Fort Lewis is a major hub of collegiate cycling, and Cheeney explains, “Our college marketing department along with the college athletic department are supporting this project. The end goal is several things, to give our cyclocross community something they can share with friends and family that live out of town, to show the juniors out there what its like to be a part of cyclocross at Fort Lewis College, and to step up within our college athletic department to showcase the sport that we have been growing in this community for the past several decades.”
