While married couple Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski and Heather Irmiger (both of Subaru-Trek) were busy putting together repeat wins in the US Marathon MTB National Championships in Breckenridge, CO, this past weekend, there were plenty of cyclocrossers in the mix as well. The Firecracker 50, held over the Fourth of July weekend, has developed into a huge event with swelled crowds lining the portions of the route near town. Roadies, such as Burke Swindlehurst and Peter Stetina, frequently make rare off-road appearances for the race, and of course the endurance junkies, such as Dave Wiens of Leadville 100 fame, come out of the woodwork.

Among the cyclocrossers in attendance were Amy Dombroski (Luna) who as a relative MTB newbie stormed to a second place finish in the Elite Women’s race, Peter Webber, who nabbed the Masters 40+ national title in yet another discipline, Brady Kappius (Clif Bar), who just missed out on an Elite MTB podium spot in sixth place, Jake Wells, in eleventh, Ryan Trebon, who eventually finished 17th gastric distress forced him to walk a half-lap, former Masters 30+ national champ Brandon Dwight (Boulder Cycle Sport) in 18th,
