With a crisp chill in the air and under the festive lights of Day 2 of the Toyota Cincy3 Cyclocross Festival at KingsCX in the Cincinnati suburb of Mason, Jeremy Powers (Rapha/Focus) and Katerina Nash (Luna Pro Team) took big C1 victories.

Jeremy Powers Captures Another C1 in Cincy

In the Men’s race, obviously with some of his Day 1 speed intact, Danny Summerhill (K-Edge/Felt) lead early, distancing himself from the chase. It didn’t last more than a lap or two.

Powers, sensing the danger of giving Summerhill too much leash, lashed out from the chase group bringing former teammate Zach MacDonald (KCCX). Powers and MacDonald traded barbs on the course. MacDonald seemed to float through the tight corners while Powers hammered the long golf course flats. Behind, Summerhill faded. Eventually, Jamie Driscoll (Raleigh/Clement) broke the stranglehold of the chase to ride to a solid 3rd place on the podium.

Nash Near Perfect, Compton’s Bike Not So Much

In women’s race, Katerina Nash (Luna Pro Cycling) won her second race in as many days with a dominant performance. (See our profile of Nash’s Orbea/Ibis cyclocross bike here).

Katie Compton (Trek Cyclocross Collective) again had drive train issues which sent her to the back and running for the pit.

Compton wouldn’t finish, and would later say on Twitter that she may or may not be ready for Day 3 after her frustrating day:

Meanwhile, Katerina Nash (Luna Pro Team) capitalized for the win as she prepares for the World Championships in her come country. Behind, fellow Norcal racer Rachel Lloyd (Cal Giant) continued her impressive return to professional cyclocross, while Nash’s teammate Catherine Pendrel rounded out the podium.

While the some on social media may be quick to blame Compton’s drivetrain brand for her mechanical problems, it’s worth noting that winner Nash is also running Shimano componentry, albeit a single ring setup with an E13 XCX chainguard.

About the series: Now in its 11th year, the Toyota Cincy3 Cyclocross Festival (Oct 31 – Nov 2) promises to deliver some of the most intense competition on the ProCX calendar this year; 3 days, 3 different venues, $35,000 in prize money, loads of UCI points, and equal payouts. The Toyota Cincy3 CX Festival continues with first-ever Pan American Continental Championships Sunday (C2 for elite men). The weekend also features amateur racing in the popular OVCX series all 3 days.
