NoTubes and Clément Raise the Stakes for Women at CrossVegas
Two supporters of women’s cycling have teamed up to place their chips on the table and raise the stakes for the Elite Women’s podium at CrossVegas.
As a result of a partnership between NoTubes and Clément the top three women will now be competing for a purse that exceeds the men’s prizelist.
Responding to the news item about the women’s prize list at CrossVegas Cindy Koziatek, Co-Owner of NoTubes reached out to organizer Brook Watts. One thing led to another and after a meeting during Eurobike a partnership between NoTubes and Donnelly Sports, licensee of Clément Tires, resulted in a plan to make the women’s category even richer than the men.
Koziatek explained, “NoTubes likes to do big things; our entire product line speaks to taking bold steps. Supporting women’s cycling and putting our money in the right places is part of that. After talking with Brook we crafted a way not only to meet the men’s prizelist, but to trump it.”
Donnelly Sports Kellogg agreed by adding, “I’ve always supported women’s cycling, from my coaching days in the Pacific Northwest to helping Amy (Dombroski) for the last 3 years. Although Clément is the “exclusive” tire sponsor of Cross Vegas there are times when it is best to look out for the good of the sport. Clearly this is one of those times.”
Watts explained, “this may be a first for a UCI Category 1 cross race. We now will see the women racing for more prizes than the men.”
The top 3 women will earn $2,400, $1,200 and $900 respectively compared to the comparable men’s payout of $2,350, $1,175 and $846.
CrossVegas takes place Wednesday evening September 22nd following the first day of Interbike. The race is organized by Watts Marketing Inc. of Longmont Colo. and has become a fixture on the U.S. cyclocross calendar attracting almost 10,000 spectators to Desert Breeze Soccer Complex in Las Vegas.
